BREAKING NEWS: Gila Ridge High School on lockdown

UPDATE (4:57 PM): The Yuma Police Department sent out a press release saying that they found two juveniles that were injured from a physical altercation and not from gunshot injuries.

YPD said there were reports of shots being fired in the parking lot and the suspect left the scene on foot and a vehicle could have been involved.

One suspect is a 16-year-old boy who was found off campus and taken into custody said YPD.

YPD also said only one suspect left the scene who is in custody and did not find any evidence to confirm that shots were actually fired at the school's parking lot.

UPDATE (2 PM): According to YPD, one suspect is in custody and was found a good distance away from the school.

They are still investigating if there are more people involved.

YPD also mentioned the victims are experiencing non-life-threatening injuries.

There was also a school resource officer at Gila Ridge who was able to handle the situation.

Here is also an update from YPD's Facebook on the lockdown:

UPDATE (11:57 AM): YUHSD put up a Facebook post about the situation saying that they're in the process of lifting the lockdown.

"Gila Ridge High School is in the process of lifting the lockdown. We are working out details to provide lunch for students as well. We will be conducting regular Monday dismissal at 1:10 p.m. In order to maintain a safe and efficient process, we encourage families to allow for their child to be dismissed from school in the manner in which they normally do so. Bus routes will run as regularly scheduled. Yuma Police Department will be on-site to assist with traffic control. If you have an emergency reason to pick up your child, you will be required to park off campus, walk to the office, and conduct the checkout process with GRHS staff. The safety of your child and your family is our priority. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this incident." - YUHSD

UPDATE (11:45 AM): YPD said that the lockdown is now "a shelter in place" because people needed to use the bathroom and everyone is still staying inside the school.

YPD said they are still investigating the active crime scene in the parking lot at Gila Ridge.

UPDATE: Most lockdowns are lifted, except for Gila Ridge High School.

At least two students were injured, but YPD said they're with their parents seeking medical attention.

They were not shot but we don't know what their injuries are at the moment.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Yuma Police Department (YPD) are responding to reports of shots fired in the parking lot of Gila Ridge High School.

While YPD said the suspect fled on foot, they are actively searching the area. In response, Gila Ridge and the surrounding schools are on lockdown.

So far, there have been no reports of injuries at this time.

YPD also asks people to stay clear of the area as the officers locate the suspect.
