COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - One person is in the hospital this morning after a shooting at an apartment complex in southern Colorado. Colorado Springs Police tell 11 News they first received calls of a shooting at the Summit Creek Apartments on Chelton Road near the MLK Bypass around 4:30am. Officers tell 11 News they found a person with a gunshot wound. This individual has been taken to the hospital but police have not confirmed the extent of those injuries. 11 News is receiving reports that the individual shot is a teenager.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Thursday evening, the D-20 school board announced Jinger Haberer as their next superintendent. The decision was made after a three-month nationwide search. Haberer takes on her new role July 1. She currently serves as a superintendent for the Ellensburg School District in Washington. Haberer is familiar with the Centennial State as she previously worked as the Assistant Superintendent of Student Achievement for Poudre School District in Fort Collins along with several admin positions in the Aurora Public School District. Haberer also taught multiple courses in Colorado, Oklahoma and Nevada.

PUEBLO, Colo. (KKTV) - A man is in custody and suspected of killing 34-year-old Heather Duran in Pueblo. Police announced the arrest of Francisco Ruiz on Thursday as he’s charged with first-degree murder for the death of Duran. Duran’s body was found Feb. 24 in the 1100 block of E. Abriendo Avenue. Ruiz was taken into custody with help from the Pueblo SWAT team.
