GAINESVILLE, Fla. — It didn’t take long after D.J. Lagway hit send on his tweet that people started to take notice. These new recruiting visit pictures didn’t look like the typical recruiting trip shots. The Florida Gators had done something different.

Located in the indoor practice facility, the new installation will be a game-changer for the Gators’ creative team. Standing at 20 feet by 13 feet, the stage is a new innovation for Florida. This weekend was the first time the social and creative team at UF was able to play around with the setup and the results turned heads. What better way to introduce the new technology than with your 2024 quarterback commit?

The system was built, engineered, and installed by a company named Vū (pronounced “view”). Vū, according to its website, is the industry’s leading virtual studio network, an interconnected collection of virtual studios serving filmmakers, production companies, enterprise brands, and metaverse developers. They have studios in Nashville, Austin, Orlando, and Tampa Bay.

The screen features thousands of LED lights that allow UF’s team to create digital backgrounds that are highly customizable.

Here’s a look at a commercial that ran prior to the AFC Championship, showing off some of the capabilities of the Vū system, featuring Tom Cruise.

Lagway’s fifth visit to Gainesville

Lagway was in town on the 28th for the fifth time. He’s been committed to the Gators since December of 2022.

“Florida checks all the boxes, from the depth chart and the way that Anthony Richardson played this season,” Lagway said in an interview with On3. “I love the offense that Coach Napier brings to the table and I feel like I fit in perfectly in there like Anthony Richardson did last year. We play similarly and I know I can grow and develop as more of a player and a person off the field at Florida.”

According to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Lagway ranks as the No. 3 quarterback and No. 21 prospect regardless of position.

With On3, however, Lagway is the No. 2 quarterback, No. 7 player overall, and No. 1 prospect in Texas.

Lagway has been a strong verbal commitment for the Gators and is relentlessly recruiting to try and bring Florida the No. 1 class in 2024.
