We're getting valley rain and mountain snow Monday morning with the snow level dropping even further. We've even had reports of a wintry mix of snowflakes and rain out in Henderson.
A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY is in place for the Spring Mountains and Sheep Range above 5,000 feet for 2 to 5 inches of new snowfall. Wind gusts up to 35 mph will also be possible. A couple of inches of snow is also anticipated above 4,500 feet in Lincoln County, central Nye County and Esmeralda County.
The snow level will drop down to 3,000ft to 3,500ft with more snowflakes in the foothills possible, especially in the west valley. We've already received a dusting of snow out at Red Rock Canyon.
Chains or all-wheel drive with snow tires are required on Highway 160 from Mountain Springs to Wheeler Pass Road in Pahrump, and on all roads in the Spring Mountains outside Las Vegas, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation.
The Red Rock Scenic Drive is closed Monday due to the wet road conditions, according to the Southern Nevada Conservancy. The Spring Mountains Visitor Gateway is also closed.
Rain totals so far have reached .16" in Aliante, .08" in Summerlin, .08" in Centennial Hills, .04" in Spring Valley & .04" in Downtown Las Vegas as of 9 a.m. Monday.
Scattered showers will continue through most of the morning through at least midday. By the afternoon a slight chance of showers is still possible (less than 20% chance) as the storm starts to move east.
High temperatures will be about 10-12 degrees below normal, reaching 49 degrees in Las Vegas. The normal high temperature this time of the year is 60 degrees. Breezes will be out of the north 5 to 15 mph.
This evening, skies will become mostly clear with much COLDER valley low temperatures around the freezing mark, 32 degrees. Winds will also pick up overnight from 5-15 mph to 15-25 mph.
A WIND ADVISORY will go into effect next along the Colorado River valley from 2 a.m. Tuesday to 4 p.m. Tuesday (Lake Mead down to Laughlin) for sustained north winds 20-30 mph with wind gusts around 50 mph. The strongest winds are expected south of the Hoover Dam.
Valley highs will remain in the upper 40s to low 50s on Tuesday followed by a warming trend.
High pressure building in next will allow temperatures to gradually rise throughout the week to valley highs in the 60s by the weekend.
Just as we start getting used to the warmer weather our next weathermaker will move in on Sunday, increasing winds and bringing a cool-down at the start of next week.
