UPDATE: Man shot by son in Charleston, West Virginia, no charges filed

UPDATE (12:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 30): Charleston Police say the man who was shot in the chest by his son in Charleston is currently at a local hospital in stable condition.

According to Charleston Police, they responded to a shooting on the 100 block of Wertz Ave. at around 9:30 a.m. They say they found a man in his late 50s with a gunshot wound to his chest.

CPD says that they learned that the man entered his son’s residence and approached his son in a “threatening manner.” His son then shot him and then called 911, according to a CPD release.

Charleston Police say that no charges have been filed, and the Kanawha County Prosecutor’s office will review the case.

According to Kanawha County dispatchers, the call came in at around 9:30 a.m. They say that a man was shot in the chest, and the suspect is the victim’s son. Charleston Police say the son was detained, and the father was taken to the hospital.

They say the shooting took place on the 100 block of Wertz Ave.

Charleston Police are on the scene investigating.
