Update, 3:40 p.m.: Up to a quarter-inch of ice accumulation is now predicted for Clarksville.

The latest NWS models show most of Montgomery County predicted to get .1 to .25 inches of ice overnight. That’s up from the earlier forecast.

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for our area, with two waves of freezing rain on the horizon.

The National Weather Service advisory is in effect from 9 p.m. tonight through 9 a.m. Tuesday for Montgomery and surrounding counties.

“Light freezing rain accumulations are expected in the advisory and could impact travel late tonight through Tuesday morning,” the NWS said.

Temperatures will rise above freezing Tuesday afternoon, but more is coming.

“A second wave of freezing rain and sleet is expected Tuesday night through Wednesday morning which could again impact travel conditions,” the NWS said.

Here’s the timeline of the winter weather:

Tonight, 6 p.m. to midnight: Light freezing rain and light freezing drizzle expected. Light ice accumulations possible.

Tuesday, midnight to noon: Wintry mix, light freezing rain most prominent. Total ice accumulations of one hundredth to around one tenth of an inch expected.

Tuesday, noon to 6 p.m.: Temperatures should get above freezing, temporarily ending this wintry precipitation event.

Tuesday, 6 p.m., to Wednesday noon: Another round of wintry mix, freezing rain and freezing drizzle is expected. Total ice accumulations will range again from one hundredth to around one tenth of an inch.

Wednesday, noon, through the rest of the week: No additional wintry weather issues are expected.
