Smith wasn't available in the third period, and it appears he'll miss some time. Paul Cotter is likely to draw into the lineup to cover for Smith on Saturday and perhaps beyond, depending on the severity of the injury.

Vasilevskiy turned aside 17 shots in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the Canadiens. The All-Star goalie gave up two tallies in the first period, looking a bit shaky on the first one, and the Lightning were never able to climb out of the early hole. Vasilevskiy continues to struggle in March, going 3-4-2 in nine starts with a 3.42 GAA and .883 save percentage, and while he's capable of flipping the switch once the playoffs start, it's an ominous sign for Tampa Bay's chances of making a deep run.

Garza has averaged 29.2 points, 10.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.6 blocks over five games with Iowa.

The Sabres were down 6-1 when Luukkonen entered the game, so he ultimately wasn't charged with the loss. Nashville's final goal was scored on an empty net. The 24-year-old has a 15-11-4 record, 3.59 GAA and .891 save percentage in 31 appearances this season. If nothing else, Tuesday's stint in net was a way for the goaltender to put some distance between him and his disastrous 7-0 loss to Boston on Sunday in which he made just 18 saves.

Washington logged 26 points (8-23 FG, 2-11 3Pt, 8-8 FT), six rebounds, five assists and one steal across 36 minutes during the Vipers' 126-119 loss to Santa Cruz on Tuesday. Despite recently battling migraines, Washington was able to play and be the Vipers' best scorer Tuesday. While part of their roster, he is expected to lead them until Houston promotes him again. As of Tuesday, Washington is averaging 26.5 points across six G League games.

The WBC interim super middleweight title is at stake in the headlining bout from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, with the main Plant vs. Benavidez fight card slated for a 9 p.m. ET start. The heat started between the combatants five years ago at a Las Vegas gym when Plant was involved in an altercation involving Benavidez and his brother, former welterweight contender Jose Benavidez Jr. The parties came to blows, but somehow Plant and Benavidez, despite competing in the same weight class, have never agreed to terms on an organized fight until now.

Plawecki was released by the Pirates on Thursday, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. The Pirates haven't made an official announcement, but Plawecki's locker was cleaned out after he was informed he wouldn't make the club. The backup catcher job behind Austin Hedges will now go to either Jason Delay or Tyler Heineman.

His workload hasn't been that heavy in the spring, but he's performed well in the limited sample. The 26-year-old right-hander looks set to fill a bullpen role as a multi-inning option this season. He struggled to a 7.39 ERA and 1.84 WHIP over 56 innings last season, but if he carry over his improved control from the spring to the regular season, he should at least enjoy a little more job security.
