GREENVILLE CO., S.C. (WSPA) – There is a great need for youth mentors in Greenville County.
Greenville Mentoring Collaborative is looking to fill that need with hundreds of mentors, men and women to guide youth in Greenville County.
The Mentoring Collaborative surveyed mentoring organizations in the Upstate a couple of years ago and found 2% had access to a mentor. Sign up to be a mentor here at this link.
The collaborative found that 8% is the national average and their goal post-pandemic. Director Alecia Brewster said they are looking to immediately sign up men and women for roles throughout the county.
Some companies will provide time in the workday for employees to mentor. Anna Gentille and Ty Thomason stopped by to talk about the role of mentors in their lives and how their business provides a good atmosphere for the mentoring.
Jessica Compton from Village Wrench with Mill Village Ministries told us about ways you can mentor in a hands on capacity like fixing bicycles and planting seeds in a garden. Anne Lee Buck told how mentoring in a school setting produces a more structured and guided atmosphere to mentor in.
