Man leads Northwest Ohio police on 40-mile chase over 3 counties, report says

OTTAWA, Ohio — A man who fled from a traffic stop Saturday night ended up leading officers on a chase that covered 40 miles, finally ending when he lost control and crashed into a home, police say.

The chase started just after 9:30 p.m. when Ottawa police pulled over a Honda reportedly driven by Andrew Black of Troy, Ohio, with two female passengers inside. Police say an officer was nearly struck by the Honda when Black sped away.

A 40-mile chase started that went through Putnam and Henry counties, then going into Wood County, where Black crashed into a house near North Baltimore. Black tried to run from the car after the crash but was quickly caught, police say.

The two female passengers were taken to a hospital for treatment, police say. Their conditions were not released.

Black has been charged with failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer, and additional charges are possible police say. Black also was wanted on three active warrants, according to police. He was being held in jail in Putnam County, police say.
