LH Men’s Wrestling Hosts Mat-Town Open II Tournament

LOCK HAVEN, PA – The Lock Haven University Division I men’s wrestling team was in action today (Sunday, Jan. 29) at home in Thomas Fieldhouse as the Bald Eagles played host to the Mat-Town Open II Tournament.

Today’s open featured well over 150 athletes from 20-plus schools, and included 15 Bald Eagles. Several Lock Haven athletes competed attached, while a number represented The Haven unattached today.

Leading the way was Isaac Reid (Saltsburg, Pa./Kiski) who had a strong day for Lock Haven at 285 pounds.

Reid was 3-0 and finished second after defaulting out of the 285-pound title match.

Reid opened the tournament with back-to-back pins. In the day’s opener, he needed just 37 seconds to pin Tyler McCatharn of Bloomsburg. Reid followed it up with another pin after earning the victory at 2:22 over Maryland’s (UNA) Jordan Gabriel. In the semifinals vs. Binghamton’s Charles Tibbitts, Reid dominated his way to an 8-1 win. With the win over Tibbitts, Reid advanced to the title bout, but the Bald Eagle defaulted out, and finished the day second at the weight class (285) with an unbeaten mark of 3-0.

Reid, who entered the 2022-23 season in the preseason national rankings, recently returned to the Bald Eagles’ lineup, and he entered today’s action 2-1 overall after his season debut on Jan. 20 at Cleveland State. Reid entered today’s competition on a two-match win streak which included an upset victory over No. 31 David Szuba of Rider in Thursday (Jan. 26) night’s conference dual win.

Reid is now 5-1 on the season and is unbeaten in five straight bouts.

John Miller (Reading, Pa./Exeter) finished fourth at 184.

Miller entered the semifinals at 184 after opening the day 2-0 which included a major decision. He fell in the semis to Lehigh’s (UNA) Remy Brancato 3-1 in a sudden-victory clash. Following the loss, Miller advanced to the third-place bout despite a no contest in the consolation semifinals. In the third-place bout, Miller fell by decision and finished the day 2-2.

Sean Logue (Philadelphia/Father Judge) opened the day with a loss, but ended up fifth overall at 133 with a 4-1 record.

J.T. Hogan (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) was 3-2 with a pin on the day and he finished sixth at 157.

The Bald Eagles are in the midst of a very busy stretch.

Lock Haven entered today’s action coming off a huge conference dual win Thursday (Jan. 26) night. On Thursday at home, the Bald Eagles won seven of 10 bouts and rolled by Rider in dominating fashion, 21-12, in Mid-American Conference (MAC) action. The win pushed Lock Haven to 2-1 in MAC action (3-6 overall).

The home dual with Rider was the first of three straight duals at home for Lock Haven. The Bald Eagles will host a pair of matches later this week, and they will get things started by continuing a long-standing local rivalry with Bloomsburg. Lock Haven will host Bloomsburg on Thursday, Feb. 2 in MAC action at 7 p.m., before hosting Navy in non-conference action on Friday, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m.
