Jan. 29, 2023, marks one year since nine people were killed in a tragic crash in North Las Vegas.
On Sunday, a tree dedication ceremony was held at Craig Ranch Regional Park to remember the crash victims.
According to police, the driver was going 103 miles per hour when he ran a red light and hit several vehicles. One was a minivan carrying seven members of the Zacarias family, ranging from five to 35 years old.
The driver who hit them and the passenger inside his car were also killed.

North Las Vegas Mayor Pamela Goynes-Brown said organizers specifically chose Craig Ranch Park because it was a park the family loved. It was also the last place they visited before the crash.
"I got to see how our first responders worked, and they treated the deceased as if they were family. And so that made me feel even better. But just to put it in words, that no mom, dad, no family should ever have to experience anything like that in life. It's just inexcusable," Goynes-Brown said.
She also stresses drivers to slow down, pay attention to traffic signs, and not drink and drive.
