How I Met Your Mother star Jason Segel has opened up about a potential cameo in the spin-off series How I Met Your Father.
Segel played Marshall Eriksen in all nine seasons of How I Met Your Mother and could potentially join Neil Patrick Harris in cameoing in How I Met Your Father. Harris made a surprise cameo in the season 2 premiere of that show.
Segel was told about Harris' cameo in an interview with ET at the premiere of his new Apple TV+ series Shrinking.

"I didn't know about that, but those people changed my life and I would do anything they ever asked me to," Segel said.
If Segel did make that cameo, he would not only join Harris as an original star making an appearance in the spin-off show but also Robin Scherbatsky actress Cobie Smulders. Smulders appeared in the season 1 finale of How I Met Your Father.
However, Harris' cameo will actually be more than just a cameo after it was confirmed that his character, Barney Stinson, will play an important role in the rest of series two.

Speaking about bringing back original cast members for cameo appearances, How I Met Your Father creator Isaac Aptaker said:
"You want to give some tidbits about what is going on in their lives, where they've landed and where they're at, but it's also about how they impact the How I Met Your Father story, and how they send one of our characters in a new, unexpected direction."
"Similar to Robin last year, we'll learn some more about where Barney's at, but it'll also have a major impact on the trajectory, and main narrative, of our season."
The first season of How I Met Your Father is available to stream now on Disney+.
