When the book closes on the Philadelphia Eagles‘ 2022-2023 season (hopefully, that’s after a Super Bowl win) and NFL Films pieces together those really cool documentaries that they do, a good portion of the feature will be dedicated to the defensive side of the ball, one led by Jonathan Gannon.

The subject of much criticism all season, most of which was undeserved, J.G.’s unit seemingly made history in some form or another in every game during the back half of the season. In the playoffs, they’ve been up to the task.

They helped Philly throttle the hated New York Giants by a 38-7 margin during the Divisional Round. They short-circuited the mighty San Francisco 49ers during the NFC Championship Game. Following a fourth-quarter stop by his guys on fourth down, he let loose with an epic celebration.

Usually, coaches screw those up. but throw J.G. in the category of elite celebrations.

Jonathan Gannon, Nick Sirianni, and every Eagles player advance to Super Bowl LVII.

With Philadelphia’s 31-7 blowout win of the San Francisco 49ers, the Eagles advance to football’s biggest game for the second time in five years. There were rough moments, emotional moments, and, at times, things got testy. Still, the Birds escape with the win and the George Halas Trophy.

Next up on the docket is a February 12th clash between the Eagles and the winner of the Kansas City Chiefs/San Francisco 49ers tilt in the AFC Championship Game. We expect another strong showing by Jonathan Gannon’s guys in that one. It will most certainly be needed.
