A Chunchula family is mourning the loss of a beloved son and father after he died in an ATV accident Saturday night.
According to the family of Charlie Windell Zuber IV, better known as Chase, he was crushed by an ATV off Guy Williams Road, ending his life too soon.
Zuber was at a party when this all occurred, and according to his family, he was trying to help save a friend that night when lost his life in return.
"He loved a lot of people, and he would do anything to help anybody and that was what he was doing last night, and it took his life so his friend's life wouldn't get killed," said Shellie Lee,
Chase Zuber's mother.
Mobile County Sheriff's Office says witnesses told deputies that Zuber got on the passenger side of an ATV trying to prevent the driver from leaving. Zuber attempted to remove the keys from the ignition and the driver turned the ATV causing it to flip and land on top of him.
Several witnesses removed the ATV off him and attempted CPR, but it was unsuccessful.
The accident has shaken the tight-knit family.
Zuber's mother Shellie Lee says he was loved by so many, and they want him to be remembered as a courageous hero who loved fishing and his family.
"He loved fishing and being with his kids. His babies were his number one," she said.
Zuber leaves behind his fiancé Sydney Myers and their two children, 5-month-old daughter Mary Grace Zuber and 4-year-old son Ryker Zuber. Lee says it will be a difficult road ahead, but knows Chase will be looking down on them.
"His baby has to grow up without him, and his sister has to be without him," said Lee as she wipes away her tears, "I will never see him again or hear his voice again. I will cherish those last three words he gave to me 'I love you'. I will cherish them for the rest of my life.
MCSO ruled Zuber's death as an accident.
