OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – Bitter cold air is here, and now we will add in some precipitation as we begin the work week.
Wind chills will be -5 to 5 by Monday morning.
Monday morning into midday, a weak round of ice and sleet began moving through central Oklahoma. Some slick spots are possible.
As sleet started to move through the Sooner State, road conditions deteriorated quickly and traffic began to back up.
Fortunately, the sleet will not accumulate on power lines or trees, so power outages shouldn’t be an issue due to the sleet.
However, drivers will need to take it slow on the roads.
A winter storm watch remains in effect until Wednesday morning for the following counties:
- Murray
- Coal
- Jefferson
- Carter
- Johnston
- Atoka
- Love
- Marshall
- Bryan.
A winter weather advisory is in effect until 12 p.m. on Wednesday for the following counties:
- Custer
- Blaine
- Kingfisher
- Logan
- Payne
- Washita
- Caddo
- Canadian
- Oklahoma
- Lincoln
- Grady
- McClain
- Cleveland
- Pottawatomie
- Seminole
- Hughes
- Kiowa
- Jackson
- Tillman
- Comanche
- Stephens
- Garvin
- Pontotoc
- Cotton.
Tuesday, there will be a little heavier precip, again bringing sleet and some freezing drizzle to central and especially southern Oklahoma.
While ice totals appear to be low, slick spots will be possible both Monday and Tuesday.
Warmer air will bring rain chances Wednesday and Thursday.
