Tesla’s lineup isn’t a mysterious bragging right for wealthy environmentalists anymore; the Tesla Model 3 offers a more affordable entry point for fans. Moreover, drivers can rent a Model 3 if they want to try it out. So, is a Tesla rental car worth your time for your next trip? Or should you opt for a hybrid or competitor instead?

Which rental car companies have Teslas?

Major rental companies like Hertz and Enterprise have Tesla Model 3 and Model Y vehicles available for drivers to rent. That’s good news for travelers who want a familiar platform like their personal Telsa or just want a zero-emission car for their next trip.

It’s also a smart way to try out a Tesla EV before committing to a more permanent option like leasing or buying. Renting is a short-term process and doesn’t require steep expenses like monthly and down payments. Of course, before you rent a Model 3 for any amount of time, it would benefit you to ensure you have access to a Level 2 charger or Tesla Supercharger. If not, charging will be a lengthy process.

How much does a Tesla cost if you rent it?

Renting a Tesla from a major rental company should cost anywhere between $65 and $120 per day. However, your rental rate could depend on factors like location, rental length, and whether or not you use a promotion or discount code.

Still, renting from a major rental company isn’t your only option. Instead, you can rent from an organization like Turo, where owners post their personal vehicles for renters to reserve. For instance, a 2021 Tesla Model 3 in Pittsburgh, California, has a daily rate of $107 to rent.

How far can a Tesla Model 3 go on a single charge?

The 2023 Tesla Model 3 Long Range can cover as much as 358 miles on a single charge. Understandably, older models have shorter single-charge ranges. For instance, TrueCar says the 2017 Model 3’s longest-range option offered 310 miles on a single charge.

Of course, these are Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates and likely won’t reflect the actual range you’ll get from your Telsa Model 3 rental. If you use many accessories or drive the lithium-ion battery-powered Tesla with a lead foot, your range will suffer.

Is Tesla Model 3 comfortable for long drives?

With more front legroom than an Audi A4 or BMW 3 Series, the Model 3 offers generous space for long drives. Also, with segment-leading electric range, the baby Tesla is one of your best bets for an EV road trip.

Still, you’ll need to plan ahead to ensure that you have access to appropriate charging stations if you take your rental Tesla for a long drive.

Should you consider a Tesla rental car?

If you’re heading to a city or large metro area, a Tesla Model 3 has the potential to be a great rental car. Moreover, renting a Model 3 is a great way to experience the EV before you lease or buy it.
