If you're heading south from Ramsey, you may want to leave the house a little early starting Monday.

The Route 17 southbound ramp from Lake Street will close Monday morning for one month for construction work, state Department of Transportation officials announced in a traffic advisory last week.

The ramp will shut at 9 a.m. on Jan. 30 to begin drainage work that is expected to last four weeks. The work is part of a $10.5 million state-funded maintenance project to repair stormwater facilities in eight North Jersey counties.

There will be a southbound detour directing drivers to continue on Lake Street, which becomes East Crescent Avenue. Motorists will be advised to take the ramp onto Route 17 northbound, proceed to the Lake Street/Ramsey exit, then continue on Lake Street, turn right onto East Crescent Avenue and arrive at another southbound ramp.

The timing of the work may vary, depending on weather and other factors, officials said. Motorists can visit 511nj.org for real-time updates about construction.

The Ramsey Office of Emergency Management advises motorists to "Plan [an] alternate route" and will also post updates on the project on its Facebook page.
