Beyond MoCo: Fire in Ice Returns to Frederick

“Fire in Ice” returns to Downtown Frederick on Friday, February 3 and Saturday, February 4. The event features live ice carving demonstrations, food trucks, scavenger hunts, and “pyrophoric fire performances”.  According to the Downtown Frederick Partnership, “Each February First Saturday, Downtown Frederick is transformed into a winter wonderland! This year, visitors can explore more than 120 unique ice sculptures, which will be on display all over downtown from 11AM-9PM.”

Per Frederick County Police: Thousands of spectators are expected for the annual Fire in Ice event next weekend. The event hosted by the Downtown Frederick Partnership will be held Friday, Feb. 3 and Saturday, Feb. 4. The Frederick Police Department would like to remind residents, commuters and visitors to prepare for traffic changes in the area. The following traffic changes were made as increased safety measures for pedestrians and to reduce the number of vehicles downtown during event hours and will take place on Saturday, Feb. 4 only:

All parking garages will have a flat-rate fee of $10 from 11AM-9PM.
No turns will be permitted at Square Corner and Church Street intersections from 11AM-7PM.
There will be police and professional flaggers at these intersections.

Carroll Creek Garage flow changes are as followed:
Patrick St will be ENTRANCE only
Carroll Creek Way will be EXIT only
Maxwell Ave will be reversed for exiting garage traffic only.

The FPD is strongly encouraging attendees to take advantage of the free shuttle service offered by the Downtown Frederick Partnership. There will be three free shuttle routes running from the hours of 11:00AM-10:00PM with the last downtown pickup at 9:45PM. Visitors may park for free in three designated areas and take the shuttle service downtown. The routes are as followed:

Free parking at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium (21 Stadium Dr.), dropping off at the Frederick Visitor’s Center (151 S East St.)
Free parking at Thomas Johnson High School (797 E Patrick St.), dropping off at The Polar Lounge (15 E 6th St.)
Free parking at the Frederick Fairgrounds lots B/C (797 E Patrick St.), dropping off at Everedy Square (125 N East St.)
