HAMPSHIRE CHRONICLE. WELL, PEOPLE IN CONCORD ARE REALLY DIGGING THE ICE FOR THE CITY’S ANNUAL WINTER FEST OF ALL. YESTERDAY, CROWDS GATHERED DOWNTOWN FOR SOME LOCAL FOOD AND DRINK. BUT RIGHT HERE IS THE MAIN EVENT, THE ICE CARVING CONTEST. THIS YEAR FEATURES SIX CARVERS. THAT’S THE LARGEST FIELD OF COMPETITORS THEY’VE HAD. SO FAR. THE FINISHED PRODUCT IS REALLY FUN, BUT ORGANIZERS TELL US, HEY, IT’S JUST AS FUN WATCHING THE CARVERS AT WORK. THE LOT OF THE CARVERS ACTUALLY HAVE A RESTAURANT FOR A CHEF BACKGROUND. SO WHEN YOU THINK OF, YOU KNOW, THE SWAN, YOU KNOW, THEY SAT DOWN LIKE WEDDINGS. YOU KNOW, THAT’S WHAT THEY PROBABLY WERE TRAINED TO DOING. AND NOW THEY’VE TAKEN IT TO A WHOLE NEW LEVEL. THIS IS THE FIFTH TIME THE EVENT’S BEEN HELD. LET’S HOPE IT KEEPS BEING HELD YEAR AFTER YEAR. IT’S REALLY FUN. AND CONCORD’S WINTER FESTIVAL IS

People in Concord are embracing ice for the city's annual winter festival. On Saturday, crowds gathered in downtown for local food and beer, the main event was an ice carving contest.This year featured six carvers, the largest field of competitors so far.Organizers said just watching the carvers work is pretty exciting."A lot of the carvers actually have a restaurateur, chef background. So when you think of those swans, those ice carvings at weddings, that's what they were probably trained at doing, and now they're taking it to a whole new level," said Jamie Simchik.This is the fifth time the event has been held. Concord's winter festival is inspired by Hampton Beach's sand castle contest.
