NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Metro Police are investigating the stabbing death of a 30-year-old man whose body was found on Saturday in the grass near a parking lot on Cherokee Avenue.

Police said a passerby found the man’s body just before noon in the grass at 810 Cherokee Ave. Police are trying to locate the victim’s next of kin.

Minutes after the body was found, police responded to a report of a white SUV with apparent blood on the outside parked at a self-storage facility at 1816 Gallatin Ave. The SUV was later linked to the victim.

Police believed the victim was killed on Cherokee Avenue and then someone drove the SUV to the self-storage parking lot.

The victim was later identified by police as Jamal D. Moore, 30, who owned short-term rentals in Nashville and North Carolina.

“Insane, the only word I can use to describe this is insane,” said Kim Johnson, a neighbor nearby.

Although the scene is clear, it has still left people like Johnson shaken up.

“When we got back from downtown Nashville, there were cops all over and homicide detectives and they came through and asked ‘hey did you guys see anything?’” Johnson said.

Just hours before, Johnson got back from her AirBnB on Saturday afternoon and Metro Police said someone walking along Charlotte Avenue found a man lying in the grass stabbed to death.

“That’s really sad, I mean very sad,” Johnson said. “It’s a scary thing just because you don’t understand what’s going on and why it’s happening, totally weird.”

Johnson said she hopes that police are able to find the person that did this.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and qualify for a cash reward.
