Juvenile shot and severely injured in Hampton early Sunday morning, according to Police

The victim's age and gender were not provided by police.

HAMPTON, Va. — Police in Hampton are trying tom determine the circumstances that led up to a juvenile being severely injured in a shooting incident early Sunday morning.

According to a spokesperson, this happened at around 3:30 a.m. Officers were dispatched to Rip Rap Road, about a block from N. King Street to investigate a report of someone having been shot.

When officers arrived at that location, they found a juvenile who was injured with a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to a local hospital and is being treated for what the spokesperson described as "life threatening injuries."

Police officers and forensic unit investigators stayed on scene until around 9:30am, focusing their investigation on a home and damaged car.

Yulanda Dunn lives right around the corner. She said the gunfire woke her up in the middle of the night.

“It was eight gunshots from one gun then three shots from another gun and then another set of three shots from another gun. All within maybe five minutes of each other,” Dunn said.

She said she went outside to investigate and saw police arriving on scene.

“I hopped up and ran and I looked and I didn’t see anything but 10, 15 minutes later, police were just flying and flying,” Dunn said.

“It was really loud. It was really loud like they were right here. It was bad. I’ve been up ever since. I can’t sleep.”

Neither the age nor the gender of the victim was provided by police. They also didn't provide any information about a possible suspect, nor the circumstances which may have led to the victim being shot.
