MARENGO TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Marshall man was arrested after a domestic assault incident that led to a standoff on Friday, January 26.
Calhoun County Sheriff’s deputies responded to Division Drive near 22 mile road near Marshall around 11 p.m. after receiving a report about a domestic situation.
On scene, deputies found a woman at a neighbor’s home who said that her boyfriend assaulted and strangled her and that he was in the house next door. Deputies then tried to get the 28-year-old man to come out of home, but he refused to comply.
According to authorities, the man implied that he may cause himself harm and continued not to comply following two hours of negotiations.
The special response team was then called in to assist deputies in retrieving the man from the house who was found upstairs with a knife. Deputies were able to arrest the man after firing a rubber impact round at him. He was arrested on charges of assault to do great bodily harm less than murder by strangulation and resisting/obstructing law enforcement.
The incident remains under investigation.
