The Mysterious Benedict Society Cancelled at Disney+ After 2 Seasons
The Mysterious Benedict Society has been disbanded: Disney+ has cancelled the book series adaptation after just two seasons.
The news was confirmed by co-creator Phil Hay on Twitter. “Dear friends — Season 2 will mark the end of The Mysterious Benedict Society‘s journey on Disney+,” he wrote. “We love everyone who helped make this truly special and indeed life-affirming experience happen. No regrets — so proud of what we made!
“So grateful to every one of you who who made a place for our show in your home & heart… You made it wonderful and we loved every minute. The beauty of streaming is that the show lives on Disney+ and you can find it whenever you want to visit. Spoiler alert for how the story ends: The kids stay friends forever.”
Star Tony Hale, who played the society’s leader Mr. Nicholas Benedict, also took to social media to comment on the show’s end. “Hard to say goodbye to the #MysteriousBenedictSociety, but so INCREDIBLY thankful to @disneyplus for allowing us two seasons of this beautiful story written by Trenton Stewart,” he captioned on Instagram. “Thanks to all the top notch writers, producers, crew and cast…wonderful story, even more wonderful people.”
Based on the best-selling book series by Trenton Lee Stewart, the live-action series follows four gifted orphans — Reynie (Mystic Inscho), Sticky (Seth Carr), Kate (Emmy DeOliveira) and Constance (Marta Kessler) — who are “recruited by the peculiar Mr. Benedict for a dangerous mission to save the world from a global crisis known as The Emergency,” according to the official logline. Together, they must “infiltrate the mysterious L.I.V.E. Institute to discover the truth behind the crisis. When the headmaster, the sophisticated Dr. Curtain, appears to be behind this worldwide panic, the kids of the Mysterious Benedict Society must devise a plan to defeat him.”
Hale stars as both the eccentric Mr. Benedict and his twin brother, the nefarious Dr. Curtain. Kristen Schaal (Bob’s Burgers, The Last Man on Earth), Ryan Hurst (Sons of Anarchy), MaameYaa Boafo (Ramy) and Gia Sandhu (A Simple Favor) round out the ensemble.

I didn’t realize the 2nd season dropped already. Damn that sucks. I wish they marketed it better. I’ll have to watch it week though I know it’ll be an open ending
It finishes the season’s story but left it with the hint of season 3 including a sister. I’m not happy I really liked it and was anxiously waiting for season 3 to start.

The evil twin shouldn’t be in season 2 like in season 1.

This is so disappointing. The show was delightful week after week, funny, sweet, and a positive light for kids and adults alike. It’s the only show on Disney+ that I made a point of watching as soon as it dropped.
What a wonderful little show. While I watched, I kept thinking how much I would probably love this show when I was a child. I blame this on marketing.

I sort of wanted to watch this. It really wasn’t on my radar until recently. Did Season 2 end on a cliffhanger that will just make me mad (a la Dark Matter) or would it still be okay to watch?
The season 2 story finishes. There’s a tiny tease for season 3, unless the final episode gets re-edited to remove it.

Really good show even for us adults. Disney just as bad as NBC and CBS cancelling worthy shows.

This is disappointing news. My family really enjoyed this show. We did prefer the first season, but the second was better than a lot of shows that are on.
My ten year old will be so sad to hear this! It was perfect for family viewing nights.
What a shame they canceled this fantastic kids’ show but produced the horrible National Treasure show…

This is very sad and a mistake on Disneys part. The show was so well done, smart and funny. Way better than the other shows on Disney+.
Very sad to see this show leave. It was the one show that my granddaughter and I got together to watch every week. She’s 15 now and it’s so hard to find that common fondness for the same show. Please don’t let it go!

Disney just keeps racking up reasons I should un-subscribe.
I think another streaming service should pick this one up as it was well done and there aren’t many smart series that are popular for multi generations. It would’ve been better to stick closer to the book series, but it was still great to watch.
My family loves this show. Please continue with a third season!

Way too bad it’s canceled! The creative, whimsical, yet cerebral productions don’t seem to stick around long. Please, please, please bring it back. It has kind of a Tim Burton feel. The writing was so good. The viewer may have know generally where it was going but did not know the twists and turns it would take getting there. I’m really curious about the sister.
P.S. Brainy kids are good role models.
