The Passaic County Tournament was extremely cluttered at the top with many of the top fencers in the area putting on a show. In the end, Wayne Valley was able to complete the triumph and take home the team title at Passaic Tech in Wayne.
The Indians clinched a team title at sabre with 15 victories and epee with 14. Wayne Hills won foil with 14 wins and challenged Wayne Valley at sabre, finishing as the runner-up.
West Milford finished second at foil while Pompton Lakes was the runner-up at epee, finishing just one behind the Indians.
The individual winners came from three different schools. Carina Festa of Wayne Valley secured the sabre title, just beating out West Milford’s Anna Del Colliano.
Tala Varoqua of Wayne Hills won foil while Pompton Lakes’ Julianna Barbera finished as the runner-up. At epee, it was Passaic Tech’s Venus John who reigned supreme. She finished one victory ahead of Jordan Latora of Pompton Lakes.
The postseason will continue to roll on and Wayne Valley has cleared one hurdle already. Now, the Indians should feel prepared to take on other challenges in the state.
