Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin on Saturday posted a video thanking fans, trainers and doctors for their support and life-saving actions after he went into cardiac arrest during the first quarter of a Jan. 2 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals.

"While I'm so thankful to everybody, I know that it isn't enough just to be thankful," Hamlin said. "This is just the beginning of the impact that I wanted to have on the world, and with God's guidance I will continue to do wonderful and great things."

Hamlin added: "I couldn't do this without any of the support and the love, and I can't wait to continue to take ya'll on this journey with me."

After taking a hit to the chest in the first quarter of that matchup against the Bengals, trainers were quick to jump into action before Hamlin was loaded into an ambulance and transported to the hospital.

Assistant athletic trainer Denny Kellington, in particular, has been praised by Bills head coach Sean McDermott for saving Hamlin's life. It was Kellington who performed CPR on Hamlin, who lost his pulse and had to be revived on the field.

"For an assistant to find himself at that position and needing to take the action that he did and step up and take charge like he did – and there were others on the field as well—is nothing short of amazing," McDermott said on Jan. 6, per CNN's Jacob Lev and Elizabeth Wolfe.

"And the courage that took—you talk about a real leader, a real hero in saving Damar's life and just admire his strength."

Hamlin had spent more than nine days at both the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and the Buffalo General Medical Center after suffering a cardiac arrest against the Bengals.

The Monday Night Football matchup was initially postponed before being canceled later in the week. The game's cancellation prompted the NFL to come up with a neutral site AFC Championship Game scenario, but since the Bills were eliminated by the Bengals in the divisional round last weekend, the AFCCG is being played at Arrowhead Stadium.

Hamlin was eventually discharged from Buffalo General Medical Center on Jan. 11 and has continued his recovery at home and with the Bills medical staff.

The 24-year-old attended Buffalo's divisional round matchup against the Bengals at Highmark Stadium last weekend. At the two-minute warning of the first half, Hamlin was shown on video making a heart signal with his hands to the Buffalo crowd, which cheered him on.

Hamlin received an outpouring of support from the NFL community during his recovery. A GoFundMe fundraiser he started in 2020 to raise money for a toy drive has raised more than $9 million.

The Bills placed Hamlin on injured reserve earlier this month. It's unclear if he will play in the NFL again.

Buffalo selected the Pittsburgh product in the sixth round of the 2021 draft. In 15 games during the 2022 campaign, he posted two pass breakups, one forced fumble, 1.5 sacks, 91 tackles, six tackles for a loss and three quarterback hits.
