A Fishy Find: Father and Son Discover Pistol Weighed Down in Humboldt Bay

Today, a father and son trying out magnet fishing for only the second time drug in a 9mm pistol wrapped in plastic and weighed down.

Jason Kraft told us that his son Jubilee was interested in Magnet fishing. “You attach a magnet to a rope, throw it in water,..and pull up what you find,” he explained. “For Christmas, I bought him a pretty expensive one.”

The first time they had gone fishing with the new magnet, they pulled up what Kraft told us was “a bunch of junk.”

This time they decided to go to the Del Norte Street Pier on Humboldt Bay. “We jokingly said, ‘Wouldn’t it be funny if we found a gun?'”

Almost exactly at noon, they drug in a heavy-duty plastic bag wrapped around an oddly shaped item which Kraft suspected might hold a pistol.

Kraft slit open the bag which appeared to have been deliberately weighed down. “It was just mucky sand and rocks inside,” he told us. “Somehow, there was a 4 inch eel or eel like creature living inside it too. I tossed it back in the water.”

Though the clip was missing, the pistol still cocked.

He called the police because, as he said, “There are not a lot of reasons to throw gun in the water….”Are there any unsolved murders they never found a weapon for?”

He took the pistol to the Eureka Police Station…As Kraft said, “If you’re missing a Norinco Model 213 9mm pistol…,” EPD would probably love to talk to you.

This is another one of those ‘Only in America or Third-World Countries’ kind of stories.

Every country is now a third world country except for Japan

At least I could afford to pay cash for my home here and in Japan they either get 100 year multigenerational mortgages or rent boxes to live in. And consequently have suicide rates that would make lemmings proud.

You can buy a very nice house in rural or suburban Japan for under $100K. The cities are expensive just like New York, San Francisco, Miami. Unlike here, rural or suburban property isn’t absurd…and high speed rail can get you from the countryside to the city efficiently.

For one thing, there are not high speed rail lines in most of the country. There used to be little two car locals everywhere but a lot of them have disappeared, leaving a number of small villages without . A lot of the akiya that show up on real estate listings as inexpensive need a lot of repair and lack modern amenities. Adds a lot to the price. There is the cultural thing about wanting new, no one has lived in it housing. Selling such a house may be hard. And, unless you have family in the area, socializing is not so easy when there a thirty year old and everyone else is 70. There may not be enough children for a good school or companionship.

However with remote work becoming a thing, and the recent push from the government, it could really improve.

Question is what was in the bag it was weighing down, crack me up. All that gun is good for is a paper weight, probably got some meth to a safe place.

The jetty is notorious for snagging lines,
you would lose your magnet.

“drug in a 9mm pistol”. Might not have been the first time it was drug around……
But was it found so close to a dock, as the pic with the boy suggests? That seems kinda dumb if you are trying to get rid of evidence.

One trend I’ve noticed about criminals, especially around here, is they are not very smart.

I find it amusing that you are laboring under the delusion that Democrats / Liberals / Socialists don’t own guns.

When my liberal brother threw his pistol off the Marina del Rey jetty in the late 1960’s it was a Ruger.

Magazine.

It’s a magazine, not a clip.

Clips have not been used on firearms since the 1950s.

That’s not true. The U.S. and other militaries still package ammunition in clip form for quick and easy loading of magazines.

I’ve always been firmly against moderation in comment sections. This site has caused me to change my opinion. I believe that anyone who interjects political comments completely unrelated to the story should be banned.

This site has a devolved into little more than two groups of elderly people, one mesmerized by MSNBC and the other by Fox, attacking one another ad nauseam.

Why It’s a perfect example of what’s wrong with almost everything in the country in plain sight, people need to wake up and realize both sides are equally fucked two sides of the same coin and in the end we are the only ones that lose, all of us.

Yeah it’s crazy but YOU can just scroll past. Try it! Moderation starts and often just doesn’t when to stop. Kym has the best site because she lets everybody speak their stuff. Even sometimes a crazy will say something sensible. I’m with you in not liking the political unfunny jibes spreading into unrelated articles but I just scroll past because I like the practice of censoring even less…

Exactly right. Angie C has turned LOCO into a echo chamber. Kim once deleted me when I quoted Shakespeare so there’s that, but this is one of the few places where people don’t always have to agree.

It’s a natural that the only people who are able to spend time on comments would be unemployed. Either because they are retired or never employed. I didn’t know this site existed until I retired. So old is a correlation, not a cause. And the personal attacks are where it ends up most of the times. Unfortunately.

But then again you said you were a self employed contractor and did some attacking yourself. So who knows…

Freedom of press and freedom of speech. You want to take that away from people. I know you are a democrat. 100% sure of it. Cancel culture woke bull crap. You want communist like rules. Not going to happen.

Incorrect, Jim. If communist like rules it’d be Commie-country leaders and their media hacks praising Donny 24/7.

That is funny because my friend and I were magnet fishing that exact same spot later that day. We found nothing. Glad he found some junk and removed it from the bay. And nice find kid. I always wanted to find a gun but have not yet.
