TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - An East Texan will be appearing on Wheel of Fortune this Thursday, Feb. 2.

His wife, Julie Maberry, and three kids are dedicated viewers and have made it a family tradition. David always had an eye for the game.

“Every time a puzzle comes up, he knows it. Every time we watch, he knows it before the contestant does, and I keep saying, ‘You gotta go on the show! You gotta go on,’” said Julie.

But, David’s real reason for joining was because of Julie’s fight against breast cancer and the promise they both made to fulfill their wishes.

David said, “The process of the surgeries, recovery and chemo -- she made me promise that I would try out for Wheel of Fortune, and I’ve kind of put it off and put it off for about six months, and finally I was like, okay, I promised I would, so I’ll do it. And, I tried out, did an online virtual audition and then I got picked.”

“You know it really wasn’t about what he wins; it was about going and doing something. We put off all these things, and then when I got sick, I was like, I don’t want to put off things anymore. You know, I wanna do everything we said we were gonna do,” added Julie.

Their dream came true. They filmed the episode in October of last year, and David said we can expect it to be fun and entertaining.

“Of course, the minimum you can win is a thousand dollars, so I can safely say that I won a little bit of money.”

For future East Texans who are thinking of joining, David had some advice. “Get out and try it. If I can do it, anybody can.”

You can catch David on Wheel of Fortune this Thursday, Feb. 2, on channel 7 after our 6 p.m. newscast.
