(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Gov. JB Pritzker has endorsed more than 20 candidates in Chicago’s aldermanic elections, but he did not endorse Mayor Lori Lightfoot for re-election or anyone else running for her job.

He explained himself Friday and was careful to say nothing negative about incumbent Lightfoot. He and Lori Lightfoot have often worked closely together but occasionally have clashed.

Democrat Pritzker said whoever is Chicago’s next mayor must have a good relationship with the governor’s office. He noted the rancor during the administration of his predecessor, Republican Bruce Rauner.

“That was not good for the city, that was not good for the state of Illinois,” Pritzker said.

Lightfoot did endorse Pritzker for re-election last year.
