Draft expert claims Houston Texans will ‘do everything they can’ to trade up to No. 1

One top NFL Draft expert firmly believes the Houston Texans will do everything in their power to try and move up to the top spot in April’s event.

For many teams around the NFL, the focus has now shifted to the NFL Draft. The worst teams from the 2022-2023 season are now looking at the amateur ranks in the hopes of finding an impact player that could be a key part of a resurgence for their franchise. Quarterback prospects are often at a premium and this year will be no different.

After a weak QB class in 2022 that only saw one signal-caller taken late in the first round, in the 2023 edition there are several players with first-round potential. Usually, teams slotted into the top spot are likely to take the best quarterback available. Yet, it is unclear what the Chicago Bears will do with the first overall pick in the NFL Draft.

It is not out of the question that they move incumbent start Justin Fields and takes one of the highly touted prospects available. However, it seems the team right behind them in the order may try to entice them out of that position.

After finally trading embattled star quarterback Deshaun Watson in the offseason, and Davis Mills not taking any development steps forward this season, the Houston Texans are in need of their next franchise QB.

The team has the second pick in the NFL Draft, and top prospects Bryce Young or CJ Stroud should be available when they are on the clock. However, ESPN NFL draft analyst Todd McShay claimed this week the team will try hard to move up and the Indianapolis Colts and their own need for a franchise QB could be the driving force.

“I don’t think they [Houston] will sit at 2. I think they’ll do everything they can [to move up]. and the Colts are going to be the driving reason … The Colts are done with veteran quarterbacks who come in and just don’t fit the bill.”
