Derek Amalbert, who was in the midst of his first season coaching the Saddle River Day girls basketball team, has resigned from his post, Saddle River Day athletic director Danny Brown told NJ Advance Media on Saturday.
Brown said he did not have any other comment on the matter.
Amalbert told NJ Advance Media he stepped down because he is focusing on his health and well-being.
Amalbert took over for Brown after Brown stepped down in the summer following an investigation from an independent outside counsel which looked into improper conduct when a video emerged on social media showing Brown in a “water fight” between Brown and students, according to the Bergen Record.
Brown was cleared of improper conduct during the investigation but decided to leave his post as coach and stay on as the school’s athletic director, the report said.
Saddle River Day has been a Bergen County and a New Jersey, Non-Public power over the last decade.
Brown guided the team to six consecutive Bergen County Tournament championships and the Tournament of Champions final in 2019.
Amalbert took over for Brown, and was in the middle of a successful season.
Saddle River Day recently rose to No. 12 in the NJ.com Top 20 rankings and is the No. 1 seed in the Bergen County Tournament.
Saddle River Day is set to play Dwight-Englewood at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Bergen County Tournament Round of 16. Saddle River Day is 12-4 on the season.
