Man arrested after breaking into car, stealing backpack containing marijuana in Brook Park

BROOK PARK, Ohio – A 22-year-old man was arrested at about 11:30 a.m. Jan. 16 after he broke into a car parked outside a Crestridge Drive home and stole a backpack containing marijuana products.

The victim called police and said a man had broken a window in his car and was rummaging through the vehicle. The man also slashed all four tires before grabbing a backpack from the car and driving away in a black Mercedes.

As police drove toward Crestridge, they noticed a black Mercedes C 300 turn left from Parkland Avenue onto Sheldon Road. They stopped the car on Sheldon.

Police ordered the man to step out of the car and place his hands on the vehicle. They patted him down and found a steak-knife-sized knife in his shoulder sack.

The man told police that the victim’s son, who often drove the victim’s car, owed him $500 for a “real estate referral” and “stock market advice” and had not paid him. He admitted damaging the tires and stealing the backpack as retribution. The man said he used a tire iron to break the car window.

The man said he was hoping that the backpack he stole contained money but instead it contained marijuana.

Police looked into the backpack and found 28 vials of marijuana capsules and 16 bags and small containers of marijuana. Police believed the marijuana was commercially sold in another state.

Police later viewed home security video that showed the man ringing the victim’s doorbell, with no one answering, before breaking into the car.
