College connections often transcend into the professional ranks for pro athletes, they can also cross sports. Unfortunately, those connections may be triumphed by the city which you now call home.

That’s the case with Georges Niang, a power forward for the Philadelphia 76ers, who played his college ball at Iowa State. With the San Francisco 49ers set to take on the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship game on Sunday, it seems like Niang is taking the safer bet of sticking with backing the city he currently resides in, rather than pulling for a close friend and fellow Iowa State alumni.

Sorry, Brock Purdy

He was asked about those connections and who he’d be rooting for in Sunday’s title game.

“Brock Purdy’s a good friend of mine…I hope Brock does well, but obviously, I like living and breathing, so I want the Eagles to win,” Niang said via Noah Levick, who covers the Sixers for NBC Sports Philadelphia.

For all intents and purposes, Niang knows full well that he doesn’t want to make any enemies out of Philadelphia sports fans. For Niang’s sake, he hopes Purdy continues to do the improbable, while the Eagles are able to punch a ticket to the Super Bowl.
