The PCM basketball teams grabbed a pair of double digit wins Friday night over Perry in a Heart of Iowa Conference doubleheader heard live on KNIAKRLS.com. The Mustangs girls team cruised to a 57-39 victory over the Blue Jays, while the boys battled for a 59-46 win.

The PCM girls opened the night’s doubleheader with an 11-1 run in the first 3:15 of the first quarter and ended the period with a 20-11 lead. The Mustangs slightly grew their advantage to 31-20 at halftime, before pushing the lead to 45-28 heading into the final quarter. PCM emptied the bench in the fourth quarter en route to the 18-point win and improving to 9-9 overall and 6-5 in the conference. All 15 Mustangs players saw action in the game, with eight contributing to the 57 points scored in the win. Addison Steenhoek led the way offensively with 15 points, while older sister Paige and Tori Lindsay added 12 and 10 points respectively.

Perry grabbed a 17-15 lead after the opening period of the boys game, but PCM’s defense responded in the second quarter. The Mustangs held the Blue Jays to just three points in the second quarter while posting 14 points of their own to take a 29-20 advantage into halftime. The physicality and defense ramped up after the break, as the Mustangs lead was cut to 37-30 entering the final quarter. With the game on the line, the offenses picked back up as PCM outscored Perry 22-16 in the fourth quarter to improve to 5-12 overall and 4-7 in the league. Jacob Wendt scored a game-high 17 points, with 13 coming in the second half, while Gavin Van Gorp and August Stock added 14 and 13 points apiece.

Both the Mustangs basketball teams return to action on Tuesday for another home conference doubleheader against West Marshall.
