NBA Rumors: Jerami Grant Offered 4-Year, $112M Max Contract Extension by Blazers

Paul Kasabian

The Portland Trail Blazers have offered forward Jerami Grant his maximum possible extension of four years and $112 million, per Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports.

Fischer noted that Grant hasn't accepted the offer as the Blazers could extend him a five-year deal at the start of free agency on June 30. He could get $233 million over five years, but Fischer noted that the "upper range appears unrealistic."

Grant is in the final season of a three-year, $60 million contract, and he's set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

But he's clearly interested in staying in Portland long term.

"I definitely like it here; love it here,'' Grant told Jason Quick of The Athletic on Jan. 7.

"The guys have been very welcoming, it's definitely a family environment, everybody is super cool, got good guys on the team, great organization—Joe [Cronin], Chauncey [Billups], everything. I'm definitely enjoying it here."

He added: "I ain't really plan on leaving."

Grant, who turns 29 years old on March 12, is averaging 21.2 points on 48.8 percent shooting and 4.3 rebounds per game. He's also shooting 42.4 percent from three-point range.

He is the son of former NBA player Harvey Grant, who played three of his 11 seasons with the Trail Blazers. He was born during his father's first season in Portland (1993-94).

Grant has fared quite well in Portland, which is 23-25 and fighting for a playoff spot. Despite sitting tied for 11th in the Western Conference, Portland is just two-and-a-half games behind the New Orleans Pelicans for fourth.

The former Syracuse star figures to be part of the solution for better days in Portland now and in the future, but the question is how the roster will shake out around Damian Lillard.

Per Fischer, "the Blazers are open to discussing the majority of their players, particularly Josh Hart and Jusuf Nurkić." ESPN's Zach Lowe previously reported on his podcast that Hart is a very hot name on the trade radar.

It's uncertain what the Blazers will look like after the Feb. 9 trade deadline, but it appears clear that Grant is not going anywhere. He and the Blazers will look to inch closer to .500 on Saturday when they host the Toronto Raptors.
