ACTION 7 WAS PUT INTO SAUCEDO, HAS LOCAL REACTION. WELL, THIS IS ONE OF THOSE STORIES THAT JUST TRANSCENDS LOCAL NEWS. IT HAS SENT SHOCKWAVES ACROSS OUR COUNTRY, INCLUDING HERE IN NEW MEXICO. AND I GOT THE CHANCE TO SPEAK WITH LOCAL ACTIVISM GROUPS TO GET THEIR REACTIONS TO THE VIDEO. CRIES FOR JUSTICE. THIS IS A SAD DAY FOR EVERYONE IN AMERICA. NONE OF IT MAKES SENSE IN NEW MEXICANS IN DISBELIEF AS MEMPHIS POLICE RELEASED BODY CAMERA VIDEO OF TYREE NICHOLS’S ARREST. MY INITIAL REACTION WAS NOT AGAIN, NOT THIS WAY. HE CRIED FOR HIS MOTHER. HE CALLED FOR HIS MOTHER MANY TIMES. HE CRIED FOR HELP. A GROUP OF THEM GIVING THEIR DEMAND FOR CHANGE IN LAW ENFORCEMENT IS NOT A PROBLEM WITH RACE. IT’S A PROBLEM WITH THE POLICE DEPARTMENT, OUR SYSTEM. BUT WE HAVE TO THEN TALK ABOUT THE CULTURE OF VIOLENCE THAT EXISTS PERHAPS IN THE SYSTEM AND WARNING OF THE DIRECTION OUR COUNTRY COULD BE HEADED IN. IF THINGS STAYED THE SAME, THAT’S NO DIFFERENT THAN GEORGE FLOYD. LOOKING UPON THE PEOPLE ON THE PUBLIC SQUARE. THAT’S NO DIFFERENT THAN BREONNA TAYLOR OR SPENDING TIME WITH HER PARTNER. WE CAN’T CHANGE THE WORLD, BUT WE CAN START SOMEWHERE, SO WE CAN START RIGHT HERE AT HOME. THIS IS A CAUTIONARY TALE. AND EITHER WE LEARN FROM IT OR WE’RE DOOMED TO REPEAT IT. WE ALSO RECEIVE THIS STATEMENT FROM ALBUQUERQUE’S CHAPTER OF THE ACP. IT READS THIS REGARDLESS OF THE RACE OF THE OFFENDERS, THE PUNISHMENT SHOULD BE EXTREME. ACCORDING TO ESTABLISHED LAW. THE UNJUSTIFIED KILLING OF MR. NICHOLS WAS EXTREME IN ALBUQUERQUE. ANGEL SAUC
