ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A 29-year-old was shot and killed Friday night on Culver Rd during an alleged argument, the Rochester Police Department (RPD) announced.

On Friday night at around 8:30 p.m., RPD officers responded to 1416 Culver Rd. for the report of a shooting.

Upon their arrival, the RPD says they found evidence of a shooting, but no victim. Moments later, officers responded to Rochester General Hospital for a gunshot victim that was taken there in a private vehicle.

Officers identified the victim as 29-year-old Rochester resident Earl Thomas. RPD officers say Thomas suffered from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper torso, and add that doctors attempted life-saving measures without success, and Thomas was pronounced dead.

During the investigation, the RPD says 23-year-old Rochester resident Robert Broomfield was identified as the suspect. Broomfield was taken into custody and charged with murder in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.

The RPD adds that it is alleged in the complaint that Broomfield shot and killed Thomas while illegally possessing a handgun during an argument on Culver Rd.

Broomfield was remanded to the Monroe County jail, according to the RPD, and is expected to be arraigned on these charges in Rochester City Court Sunday morning.
