(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A reward is now being offered for information that leads to the Rockford man wanted for stealing a funeral home van with a body in the back and leaving both in separate places in Chicago.

The reward is $1,000. It’s being offered by activist Andrew Holmes, who says he was really bothered thinking about the body just being dumped, naked, in an alley.

The man police are looking for -- 23-year-old Deon Howard -- is charged with theft and abuse of a corpse.

The family of Curtis Brown, the man whose body was in the van, is planning to sue. The body had been left in the van overnight outside the funeral home before being stolen last weekend and driven to Chicago.

The van was found on Sunday, but the body wasn’t found until Monday.

Holmes says anyone with information about the suspect should call police or his tip line: 1-800-you-tell-us.

Brown, 47, died of natural causes while he was at work Jan. 20, according to a GoFundMe page set up by the family. He leaves behind 12 children and four grandchildren, his brother said.
