Lit Youngstown's first winter gala will be packed with book-themed events for those who enjoy the written word.

At Just Desserts: a Lit Winter Gala, guests can find book themed desserts such as "butter-beer cupcakes (Harry Potter), Turkish Delights (The Chronicles of Narnia) and a huge chocolate cake (Matilda)," according to the press release. Gluten free and vegan options will be available.

Beyond the sweets, Akron writer David Giffels will read excerpts of his works The Hard Way on Purpose and Barnstorming Ohio, and Youngstown poet Philip Brady will read selections from The Elsewhere: Poems & Poetics and To Banquet With the Ethiopians. Plus, artwork will be auctioned and a ticket raffle inspired by Willy Wonka's golden tickets will be held.

For those who want to dress up, an award will be given to the winner of the book title themed costume contest from the owners of POP! Art, Books and Culture bookstore, Craig and Christine Duster.

The event will fill the Great Hall of St. John's Episcopal Church on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. Doors will open at 6:45 p.m.

Tickets purchased before Feb. 4 cost $35, but tickets can be purchased at the door for $40.

All proceeds from the event will go to Lit Youngstown's 2023 programming.
