There's a chance to clean out closets and support a good event this weekend.
Asheville GreenWorks will help a student team from Martin L. Nesbitt Jr. Discovery Academy by collecting denim clothing 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Hominy Valley Elementary School in Candler. The goal is to upcycle the denim clothing into insulation for Habitat for Humanity houses.
The Nesbitt Habitat Collaborative can accept denim jeans, jackets, shirts and skirts that are at least 90 percent cotton, but they can be ripped, colored or stained. The goal is to collect 500 denim items that will be upcycled into insulation for a Habitat for Humanity home in collaboration with Blue Jeans Go Green.
The goal of Hard 2 Recycle events is to make recycling more accessible, especially for large or specialty items like electronics and Styrofoam that are not accepted in blue city recycling bins.
