PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) — A Phoenix woman attempted to burn a house to the ground last week so her sister couldn’t get half of the money from the home being sold, police said. According to court paperwork, Corinna Theresa Dietz bought a home with her mother in 2019, and the deed was written that if the house was sold, Dietz would get all the money. But the mother moved and wrote the money from the sale would be put in a trust where Dietz and her sister would get the money. Police said Dietz didn’t know of the change, so when her mother died and sold the home, she became “enraged” that she’d have to split the money with her sister. On March 20, Dietz recorded herself pouring gasoline throughout the house and lighting five different fires, according to court paperwork.

TEMPE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -- Tempe police say an argument ended with one person being shot at a Tempe motel early Wednesday morning. Officers were called out to the Super 8 motel on Apache Boulevard, east of Rural Road around 1:30 a.m. When they arrived, paramedics found a person, who has not been identified, with two gunshot wounds. Officers say that person was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect took off from the scene just before police arrived. At this time, detectives believe that the suspect and a victim had some sort of argument that escalated. Video from the scene showed officers actively securing the crime scene as they work to gather details on a possible suspect. Police say this was an isolated incident and that there is no public threat.

Argument ends in shooting at Super 8 motel in Tempe

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) — A man is dead following a shooting at a north Phoenix apartment complex following a fight late Tuesday night. Officers were called to the Tuscany Pointe Apartments near Interstate 17 and Greenway Road just before 11:30 p.m. and found a man, later identified as 23-year-old Treyvon Simons who had been shot. He was rushed to an area hospital where he died a short time later. Detectives believe that Simons was shot during a fight by a man who provided police with a self-defense claim and was later released.

Bell doesn’t have custody of the kids, police said.

Around 12:20 p.m., Surprise police were called about an unwanted guest in a Walmart parking lot near Grand Avenue and Bell Road. Officers arrived and found a man sitting in the backseat of a car with the door open and tried to talk to him. Police say the man was yelling and argumentative, so the officers asked the man to get out of the vehicle. According to investigators, that’s when the man yelled at officers, “I have a gun,” and reached under a pile of personal items. Officers fired at the man, killing him.
