Exercise scientist reviews celebrity workouts, for your amusement.

BOXROX previously talked about how you should not copy https://www.boxrox.com/why-you-should-never-copy-a-pro-athlete/ pro athletes for many reasons. But what about celebrities?

We know tons of celebrities tap into the fitness industry and community simply because they are famous. With TikTok, Instagram and YouTube being the main vehicle to dissipate shareable content about anything, it is no wonder how these social media channels are flooded with people that claim to be fitness gurus showing how to do one thing or another.

Dr Mike Israetel has a PhD in Sport Physiology and is the co-founder of Renaissance Periodization, a YouTube channel focused on hypertrophy. He is well respected by the fitness industry and the bodybuilder community.

As he explains in the beginning, being an exercise scientist is just a fancy title, but he knows about fitness more than most people online at the moment.

1. Bradley Martyn

Although Bradley is incredibly strong, the bent-over row he is showing in the video is “pure nonsense” according to Israetel. This can put your body at a greater risk of injury if done the way he does in the video.

2. Mark Wahlberg

The famous actor is doing Nordic curls, but apparently very wrong. “I would like to see a bit more eccentric control from these Nordic curls, that is the only point of the exercise.”

3. Ben Bruno

Although the video was posted on Ben Bruno’s Instagram, it is comedian Chelsea Handler who appears doing a single-leg supported Romanian Deadlift. “I would say putting your leg really far away from you on a bench really far away needlessly destabilises the exercise,” Israetel says. “If you do these with what it’s called a B stance, you could probably get more out of it.”

4. Dwayne The Rock Johnson

Dwayne Johnson, or The Rock, is doing belt squats with a heavy load. And The Rock is doing giant sets with no rest in between.

Israetel says the range of motion in the exercise is very small, which can target adductors, but not the quads. “I would like to see The Rock use about half that weight, maybe less, get his feet a little bit closer together, stay upright and sink down like three feet lower. That would torch his legs.”

5. The Fighting Fan Base

This account shared a video of Steven Seagal fighting two men at the same time. This is one of the most ridiculous videos as it clearly is not a fight, but rather something choreographed.

6. Shaquille O’Neal

As a joke, lastly in this list of exercise scientist reviews celebrity workouts is none other than basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal. Shaq is a very funny person and the video being reviewed is him just doing bodybuilding poses.
