Mountain Hawks Looking for Ninth Straight Rivalry Victory

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh men's track and field team will return to Rauch Fieldhouse for the final time this season on Saturday afternoon. The Mountain Hawks will host Lafayette at 2 p.m. in the Rivalry presented by Lehigh Valley Orthopedic Institute.

Lehigh is coming off a solid weekend of performances at the Moravian Indoor Meet and Villanova Invitational, capturing one school record, three all-time top ten additions and five IC4A qualifiers.

Senior Kerem Ayhan led the Mountain Hawks last weekend as he claimed his second school record at the Villanova Invitational. Ayhan, who broke Kyle Burke's 1000m record, finished sixth overall with an IC4A qualifying time of 2:24.41.

Two more Mountain Hawks added IC4A qualifying times alongside Ayhan in the 1000m. Fellow seniors Connor Melko (2:25.28) and Jacob Martinez (2:27.86), finished seventh and 13th, respectively. On top of their IC4A qualifying times, both Melko and Martinez found their way in the all-time top ten list, ranking third and ninth all-time.

Sophomore Aidan Lynch was the final Mountain Hawk to earn an IC4A qualifying time on the track. Lynch finished fifth overall in the 3000m with a time of 8:24.78.

In the field, Liam Lovering not only bettered his rank on the all-time list but he also punched his ticket to the IC4A Championship. Lovering finished second overall in the shot put with an IC4A qualifying mark of 16.19m to better his rank of sixth all-time. The sophomore also finished ninth in the weight throw with a mark of 15.89m.

While some members of the Lehigh men's track and field team excelled at the Villanova Invitational, others found success in Rauch Fieldhouse where Moravian hosted its meet. The Mountain Hawks dominated at Moravian's meet, with 16 student-athletes claiming top ten finishes.

In the jumps, senior Brittann Pierce and Skyler Mott both earned second-place finishes. Pierce finished second in the high jump with a mark of 1.88m while Mott finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 12.87m.

Lehigh continued to dominate in the track events with first-year Noah Kim picking up a third-place finish in the 800m with a time of 1:58.46. Senior Ryan Wycherley followed close behind, finishing fourth with a time of 1:59.71.

Senior Amondo Lemmon claimed a second-place finish in the 200m with a time of 23.19 while the Mountain Hawks wrapped up the day with a second-place finish in the distance medley relay with Wycherley and Kim running alongside first-year Henry Burd and Riley Williamson

Last year, Lehigh won 16 of the 17 events to earn its eight straight victory over the Leopards. The Mountain Hawks defeated Lafayette 122-59.
Saturday's meet against Lafayette will begin at 2 p.m. with the men's pole vault, men's weight throw, women's high jump and women's long jump. Track events will begin at 3:30 p.m. with the men's mile.
