Hoboken has launched an online survey to gather input from residents on possible features and amenities at the resiliency park planned for 800 Monroe St., Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla announced.

To take the online survey, go to www.hobokennj.gov/800-monroe-survey. The survey is scheduled to close on Feb. 10 at 6 p.m.

Officials say the design team will use the input collected from the survey public engagement session held Wedneday to create draft concepts for the park’s design which will be presented to the public later this year.

“This new park at 800 Monroe will be shaped by public input from residents that will enjoy the new open space for years to come,” Bhalla said. “I encourage all members of the Hoboken community to play a part in this process and provide feedback as we design a park that will provide major quality of life benefits for current and future generations of Hoboken residents.”

The survey asks 13 questions on topics like active and passive recreation.

In 2021 the city acquired 1.43 acres at 800 Monroe St. for the purposes of a resiliency park through the “Monarch” settlement with Ironstate Development. As part of the agreement, the city prevented the development of 186 units at 800 Monroe St. and the development of two 11-story towers along Hoboken’s waterfront.

The city also secured approximately $550,000 in funding from the developer for the 800 Monroe design process. The city will also utilize $15 million toward the construction of the park provided by a redevelopment agreement with the redeveloper of 930 Monroe St.

The park would be the city’s fourth resiliency park to mitigate area flooding caused by heavy rainfall events utilizing above and below ground infrastructure to store storm water. Low-lying areas of Hoboken, such as that on the west side of the city near the future park, can experience flooding if rainfall exceeds 0.8 inch per hour.
