APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) — On Wednesday night and Thursday morning, volunteers went out all throughout the Fox Cities for the biennial point-in-time count; which seeks to assess how many people are experiencing homelessness and are living on the streets in our area. Those volunteers also provided them with resources.
Twenty-four people were counted as living on the street; compared to 19 at this time last year. Mindy Howell, Fox Cities Housing Coalition President, says she isn’t surprised by this increase.
“It is what I expected to see; affordable housing is just really hard to come by right now.” said Howell.
These 24 individuals were all adults who are either living on the street or in their cars.
Of the 24 people who were counted, 7 accepted help. They were able to go to the Salvation Army in Appleton for the night and were provided with further resources and other items like food, socks, and more.
