Gang related violence claimed two more des Moines youth this week. This time it felt different 18 year old johnny Dameron and 16 year old Rashad car were killed at starts right here, R and B. Hip hop artist Will keeps launched the nonprofit education center to help at risk youth reach their full potential and this week the violence Will has been working to stop, showed up at the door of his organization. Now two of the young people he was helping are lost. Another young person is behind bars and Will is still recovering from the gunshot wounds he sustained trying to intervene. Last year I had the privilege of seeing Will's work firsthand as Will took me through his facility, it was crystal clear. He had poured his heart soul and personal resources into creating *** place where these young people can feel valued. You see it in the classrooms, the kitchen and the area created just for his students to have fun as we talked, his love for the kids was obvious. His passion for making *** difference in our community was clear. Will even had *** traditional front porch recreated inside the facility as Will tells it. The front porch is where all the meaningful and memorable conversations happen days like monday, remind us of the importance of the work of starts right here and Will keeps and that's where we come in, Will is on the road to recovery.
