Cristiano Ronaldo's point-blank miss 'changed the course of the match', insists manager Rudi Garcia

By Spencer Morgan For Mailonline,

Al-Nassr manager Rudi Garcia has shown he's not afraid to criticise his new superstar player after he admitted Cristiano Ronaldo 's missed chance was a big factor in their Super Cup exit to Al-Ittihad.

Ronaldo, who also failed to score in his official Al-Nassr debut on the weekend , was unable to have a major impact as his side lost 3-1 - thanks to goals from Romarinho, Hamdallah and Al-Shaqeeti.

The Portugal forward did however come close, as he sprang into action just before half-time, leaping high into the air and diverting a powerful header at goal, only to be denied by Grohe in goal.

Al-Ittihad then immediately went up the other end and made it 2-0 just 28 seconds later, leaving Ronaldo and Co with a mountain to climb.

'One of the things that changed the course of the match was Cristiano's missed opportunity in the first half,' Garcia assessed after the game.

'I congratulate Al-Ittihad. They presented a much better first half than us, and we played a good second half, but unfortunately we were not able to adjust the result. It's true that we regret losing the Super Cup, but we are still the first in the league.'

Ronaldo also suffered an injury scare as he went down clutching his ankle but fortunately he was able to continue.

He is still waiting for his first competitive goal for his new club but did net twice in the friendly against Paris Saint-Germain.
