Three teens have been arrested after police officers say they forced their way on an Independence school bus, punched the driver and assaulted two students.
The incident took place Thursday afternoon just before 4 p.m. at the corner of College and Union.
Investigators believe it was a targeted attack.
“They knew each other, the suspects, and the victim,” said Officer Jack Taylor, Independence Police spokesman.
A spokeswoman for the Independence School District issued a brief statement acknowledging the incident happened and stating the matter had been turned over to the Independence Police Department.
The statement also said about the suspects, “The teenagers were not ISD students currently attending school. There was no indication that a weapon was present.”
However, detectives are looking through surveillance video from a camera on the school bus determine if a weapon was involved.
“One person that we interviewed did say they saw a weapon, saw a handgun. However, once we apprehended those teenagers after the incident, no weapon was found,” Officer Taylor said.
The teens were caught near Osage and Mill after a resident called police to report spotting the teens trying to steal a bike.
The driver and the two students on the school bus suffered minor injuries.
Investigators also say one of the student victims was also robbed.
