Free series on blues being hosted at local college

JACKSON, Tenn. — A free music program is being hosted at Jackson college.

The Blues At Lambuth

According to a news release, the University of Memphis Lambuth will be hosting The Blues, a free Masterclass Series, focusing on aspects of the genre and giving people hands-on experiences from February 7 to April 4.

The class and instructors will be:

  • 12 Bar Blues: A Basis for the American Song – February 7 – Elam McKnight
  • Blues Poetry Workshop – February 14 – James Cherry
  • Blues: The Mother of American Music – February 21 – Murry Young
  • Blues Harmonica – March 14 – J.D. Taylor
  • Vocals/Keyboard –  March 21 –  Kellye Cash Sheppard and Steve Cothran
  • The Evolution of Blues Guitar – March 28 – Leland Porter
  • Open Mic – April 4 – various performers

The release says that each class will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m in the Wilder Student Union building.

“We have an exciting lineup of classes hosted by local musicians who want nothing more than for each guest to leave with a greater appreciation of this historical genre of music,” said Lendon Noe, Director of The Blues at Lambuth: A Masterclass Series. “This series is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn from some of our region’s most talented performing artists. And who knows? After the series is over, you might even be able to play a song or two!”
