Anthony Smith takes a look at the allegations against Conor McGregor.

Conor McGregor seems to always be in the news for one thing or another. Since winning his first world title the MMA community became obsessed with McGregor and wanted to know everything about him. Over the past few years, it seemed that McGregor was in the headlines more for his troubles than his fighting. McGregor has been arrested several times and now is being accused of assault.

McGregor has been accused of hitting a woman on his boat last year while in Ibiza, Spain. According to the report of the victim, she was attacked by McGrgeor and then jumped off the boat to get away from him. She is now pressing charges via a lawsuit. McGregor has denied the accusations via his representation.

Anthony Smith wants to give Conor McGregor the benefit of the doubt until proven guilty

On a recent episode of their podcast, Michael Bisping and Anthony Smith began to discuss McGregor and the charges filed against him. Smith and McGregor have not gotten along of late but despite this fact, he is willing to give McGregor the benefit of the doubt.

“Until he’s charged or convicted or whatever, it’s because who knows, like when you’re, and this isn’t me sticking up for Conor, this isn’t me saying he did or didn’t,” he said. “What I’m saying is when you’re a powerful person when you’re super, super rich, and you’re in a position of fame like Conor is, people will say anything to either get money or get clout or whatever. So again, I’m not saying that that’s what this girl is doing, but it’s not fair to just believe everybody forthright every single time. There are two sides.”

Smith was conscious not to dismiss the accusations of the victim, he was very empathetic to what happened to the woman.

“We all know how well Conor and I get along but I’m also not in a position to just crucify him for something that we don’t actually know is true or not,” he said. “But the allegations are f–king horrible. I mean, if the allegations are true that’s terrible, and if that is something that happened to her I feel very, very sorry and that sucks, but you’ve gotta let it play out and see what happens.”

McGrgeor’s team has put out a statement denying all claims by the victim. McGregor has not fought in the UFC since July 2021. He is currently out of the USADA testing pool and will need to return to active testing for six months before fighting again.
