AUSTIN (KXAN) — Police said a family violence call led to a SWAT situation Friday afternoon because a woman will not leave her south Austin apartment.

The initial 911 came at about 12:30 p.m. at a complex in the 2200 block of Perry Avenue, which is near West Oltorf and South Fifth Streets. First responders treated a woman there with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Police sent SWAT officers to the scene after they said a female suspect who may be armed with several knives refused to leave her apartment. While negotiators work to get her to leave, police said they evacuated several nearby apartments, though the exact number of affected units is not known.

Police are asking people to avoid the area until the situation is brought to an end.

KXAN will follow this developing story and share the latest information as soon as it becomes available.
